Math was a little sweeter in Mrs. Ford’s classroom! Students participated in a fun, hands-on activity to practice ratios using Lucky Charms cereal!

Students sorted and counted the different marshmallow shapes and cereal pieces, then used their findings to calculate and compare ratios. This tasty activity helped students better understand part-to-part and part-to-whole ratios while making math fun and engaging!

🎭 A Night at the Altria Theater! ❤️🖤

Our 8th grade drama students had an amazing time seeing *Mamma Mia!* live on stage! 🎶✨

Students had the opportunity to experience the excitement of live theater, enjoy an incredible musical performance, and see firsthand how acting, music, and storytelling come together on stage.

What a fun and memorable experience for our young performers! A special thank you to Ms. Langford for organizing this wonderful opportunity for our Blackhawks! ❤️🖤

Today, FTB students interested in careers in healthcare participated in a Virtual Healthcare Career Day in the library!

Students had the opportunity to hear directly from healthcare professionals and learn more about different career options, including the skills and education needed for various jobs, what those careers are like, and potential salaries.

It was a great opportunity for our Blackhawks to explore their interests and start thinking about where those interests could take them in the future! ❤️🖤

Mrs. Wells’ 6th grade ACE students recently held a Game Symposium to show off the games they created based on the Sherlock Holmes short story “The Adventure of the Speckled Band.”

Students took what they learned from the story and transformed it into their own creative games, then had the opportunity to share their creations with others!

📚 A Special Guest for 8th Grade English! ❤️🖤

Our 8th grade English students welcomed Sgt. Dodson to the FTB Library for a special presentation connected to their reading of Red Kayak.

In the novel, Brady must decide whether to protect his friends or tell the truth after a prank results in a tragic death. His decision eventually leads to a criminal investigation and raises an important question for our students: What happens when a juvenile is accused of a crime?

Sgt. Dodson helped answer that question by explaining how the juvenile justice process works, sharing what life may look like in a juvenile detention center, and answering plenty of student questions about different situations and scenarios.

Thank you to Sgt. Dodson for spending time with our 8th graders and helping connect their classroom reading to the real world! ❤️🖤

Bringing literature to life! 📚❤️🖤

8th grade students in Mrs. Rave's class are currently reading Red Kayak. In the novel, the main character joins a search party on the Corsica River and ultimately finds and rescues a 3-year-old boy, performing CPR to help save his life.

Today, students made a real-world connection to the story by learning the basics of CPR and getting hands-on practice in class! Students practiced CPR techniques using both adult and infant training mannequins.

What a great way to connect what students are reading to important real-life skills! ❤️🖤

Mrs. Herrington’s 6th grade science students took learning hands-on in the Lit Lab as they worked together to build **Pringles Rings**—freestanding rings made entirely out of Pringles!

This fun challenge put students’ problem-solving, teamwork, and engineering skills to the test. Check out their creations! 👏

What a great first full week at FTB!

Our students jumped right into learning, connecting, and creating. From problem-solving and collaboration in math, to hands-on exploration in science, to finding their voices and making music together in choir—our classrooms are already full of energy and excitement!
